Each round will have 20 tossups read for both teams to compete on, without the option of conferral between teammates. Teammates are encouraged to buzz in the tossup early if they know the answer. If they buzz incorrectly, their team is locked out from buzzing on that tossup. On the successful answering of a tossup by a team member, the team "unlocks" a bonus question with two parts worth 10 points each. On the bonus, teammates can confer and must wait till the end of the question to answer.
There are multiple ways to improve in Quiz Bowl. The most common way is simply memorizing common "clues" that show up in tournaments for frequently asked topics. The website QuizDB includes a database in which you can find past Quiz Bowl questions about a certain topic. For example, if you wanted to learn literature, you can search up a author name and study questions purely about that author. Writing questions is also another way you can improve, and most importantly, try to specialize your knowledge in a specific topic. |
